The Garmin Forerunner 405 is definitely an upgrade from its predecessor, the Forerunner 305, especially in terms of its design and weight. The sports watch resembles a regular watch that is lightweight and has a sleeker and smaller design. Apart from it being GPS enabled, it has a control system that is referred to as ‘touch bezel’ that provides access to most of its functions. The Forerunner 405 is sold with a heart rate monitor and the ability to transfer data through a wireless connection to a personal computer and connect online through the Garmin website.

For a sports watch this model is quite stylish. For me, this is a double benefit as it can be worn for training as well as a regular watch. The sports watch has a wrist band that is strong and sturdy and can be worn comfortably on most wrists, but cannot be lengthened in case the wrist of an athlete is much bigger. It is available in two colors, black and green, even though the black one is the most popular because it brings out the stylish design of the sports watch.

Pros:
  • Accurate, Easy to Use
Cons:
  • Some users don't like the bezel control

The features that are part of this watch are diverse. One of its best features is the touch bezel feature that sets it apart from other sports watches within its range. In addition, this feature eliminates the use of the multiple buttons that are found on most of the watches that have been manufactured by Garmin. Using the functions of the bezel takes a little more time to get used to, but with some practice an athlete can easily look through the menus.

One of the main reasons for the purchase of watches from Garmin is their ability to synchronize the data gathered from training sessions to a personal computer. This model is no exception, using wireless technology to regularly connect to the computer as long as it has been paired at the initial point. The wireless technology allows synchronization of the data as long as the watch is within close proximity.

This Forerunner also has a virtual training partner that is very effective in making the athlete achieve some of their set goals. They are able to race against a virtual person, store routes, and even share selected information with other runners using the same device.

The majority of users find the Garmin Forerunner 405 quite impressive, except for the challenge of learning to use the touch bezel function to access and control many of the features for a better experience. Also, its battery capabilities vary depending on the type of workouts or activities the user is involved in on a regular basis.

Ultimately, this sports watch is a favorite training tool for most runners and athletes. It comes with lots of good features and is well equipped. Its unique touch bezel control function really does offer a different experience for athletes, making it both a good and interesting choice for a sports watch.
