GPS technology has literally taken over the world of sports. Many sports watches now used in training sessions have the capability to provide a geographical context on activities as they are taking place. The Garmin Forerunner 410 is just such a sports watch. It is used by many athletes and built in such a way that it resembles a regular wristwatch. It is still light in weight even though a bit larger in size because of the control buttons on its sides and its overall design as well.

Note:  This model has been updated to the Garmin Forerunner 610 watch which has more and better features.  To read a review click here.

The Garmin Forerunner 410 has a high resolution LCD screen that gives the user a clear view of all the information as it is displayed on it. The screen of the Forerunner 410 makes it one of the best choices for sports watches as it allows the user to be able to view it from a variety of angles. The screen also makes the interaction with the watch much more interesting through the various graphics that are displayed for the benefit of the user.

What I like most about this model is its variety of features. Some of the top features that give this sports watch an edge over the rest are: it has a responsive control system but it is not overly sensitive and the virtual partner racer function makes training more fun.

Pros:
  • Easy to Use
  • Accurate and Fast
Cons:
  • The touch bezel - people either love it or hate it

This system responds in a straight forward manner which helps in the smooth operation and accessing the functions of the watch. When the sides of the watch are pressed it reveals a lot more functions to the user that are available for optimal operation of the watch.

The GPS functionality of this device is quite accurate and is important for the proper functioning of the sports watch. The information provided usually focuses on the distance covered and in the amount of time it is covered. In addition, there is also a training function that goes beyond the recording of such information and can actually be used to encourage the user to run faster. This function is referred to as the ‘virtual partner’ and it helps a user to gauge how far behind or ahead they are, as if they were running against a real trainer or coach.

The satellite connection time of the 410 is very quick when outdoors. This is a big benefit to the user, as most times it takes as little as thirty seconds to activate making the watch ready to perform its functions almost instantly, irrespective of the sports activity that the user is involved in.

The touch bezel is one of the features on the Forerunner 410 that customers either love or hate; depending how well they have learned to use it. It is designed to provide convenience for the user, but some can find it to be a nuisance when touched by mistake as it can cause it to change modes that were preset for a particular activity.

Generally, the Forerunner 410 is a good upgrade for many customers and can be a good purchase as long as the touch bezel feature is mastered.
