The Ultega NavRun 2K11 personal guidance system with GPS capabilities represents a mid-price range model of devices of this nature.  There are several fantastic features associated with this personal tracking tool.  Although this is last year’s model if it is any indication of what athletes can expect from future models then those that currently own this probably can’t wait to get their hands on the next generation.

Some of the features that stand out to me about the Ultega NavRun 2K11 include a battery saving feature which allows for specific use of the system tailored by the individual user. Rapid response from the GPS with regards to location acquisition is also a huge plus with this particular device with some extremely quick response times for both cold and hot boot conditions. The aesthetic appeal of the device also makes it useful for several daily duties.

Pros:
  • Fast Acquisition of Location by GPS
  • Battery Saving Feature
Cons:
  • Best for pool or above water use, not scuba or long periods of submersion

The battery saving capabilities of the Nav Run 2K11 are also a very favorable feature found in this device. When the operator configures the system to use just the functions and features of the watch, the GPS is shut off to conserve energy, and the watch can run for up to a whole year on a single charge. This is extremely advantageous to part time athletic enthusiasts that do not need the GPS system on a daily basis yet still prefer to wear the watch. The comfort and lightweight material used in the manufacturing of this personal tracking assistant makes it very user friendly and a pleasure to wear on almost any occasion. Athletes that enjoy tracking their workouts and heart rates don’t need to carry a bulky wristwatch along for the ride. This is a compact guidance system that is conveniently easy to use.

Customers currently wearing an Ultega NavRun 2K11 are divided on the areas associated with the waterproofing capabilities of the watch. It is rated for a depth of not more than 30 meters which gives it limited capabilities underwater when compared to similar models from other competitors. Some argue the device is capable of deeper diving, while others have reported problems with reaching and maintaining the advertised 30 meter depth.

I would recommend the Ultega NavRun 2K11 for non-aquatic associated athletes such as scuba divers, snorkeling enthusiasts, or individuals that plan on staying submerged for long periods of time. For above water use the device is a nice consideration as a first time investment, while it will hold up to wet weather conditions and pool type conditions while swimming laps, more than one complaint about water durability is enough to shy away from it if you will be spending time beneath sea level.
